For our families
Everything you need, in one place.
Helpful information for current and new Toomerland families, from what to pack to how we communicate.
What to pack
- Two labeled sets of clothes (underwear, pants, shirt, socks)
- Simple, washable play clothes
- Diapers and wipes (if needed)
- Labeled bottles for infants
- Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
- Sunscreen and water shoes in summer
Illness policy
For everyone's health, children stay home with a fever over 100°F (by mouth), vomiting more than once, diarrhea, pinkeye, an unusual rash, or another contagious condition. If your child becomes ill at school, we'll keep them comfortable and close to a caregiver while you're on your way.
Staying connected
You'll hear about your child's day every day, and weekly themed lesson plans are posted so you can talk about learning at home. We have an open-door policy: visit or call anytime.
Closures & holidays
We publish our closure calendar each year, including major holidays and Mardi Gras, a nod to our Louisiana roots. Ask for the current calendar.
Nutrition
Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are included, planned to USDA CACFP standards. Menus are posted for families, and every allergy is carefully followed.
Family handbook
Our parent handbook covers hours, policies, health, safety, and daily routines. You'll receive a copy when you enroll.
At home
Ways to keep learning together
- Read together for 15 minutes every day
- Talk about your day and ask open-ended questions
- Let your child help with simple chores
- Spend time outdoors noticing nature
- Keep a consistent bedtime routine
